Upstage!
Performance/Dance Workshop with Jemima Wyman



Students will warm up with dance and theatre exercises, and will learn how to make a play from start to finish, including writing their own script, making costumes, designing a set, working on props, deciding on accompanying sound and technology.

Drawing from the Monsters!
10 weeks of ghoulish art-making with John Hogan

'Monsters throughout history' is the inspiration for this unique approach on a technical drawing workshop. Hieronymous Bosch's paintings, medieval manuscripts, Hindu mythology, monster movies, contemporary cartoons, Chimera/Mythological creatures, "Mega" Monsters, and more will be used as reference material to help us visualize the macabre to improve our illustrative technique and creative thinking.

Indie-Publishing Workshop

The world of self-publishing is endless! You have an important story to tell, and in this workshop, we'll explore tools to help you communicate your story and learn more about independent publishing and small press. Some of our classes include: creating the physical object as well as the content for their own zine (a free-form, self-published mini-book), interviewing their fellow classmates, experimenting with duplicatable art, and more.

Clay Jammers

Musical instruments, plants, animals, strange buildings and strange lands will be created in clay! A balance of functional and sculptural objects sometimes combined with less traditional materials, makes this an exciting class that will keep the students wondering what else they can do with clay! A class for beginners as well as those with experience, this class will teach skills and techniques such as hand building and glazing while broadening the student's understanding and application of ceramics!

Ages 6-11

In this workshop, students will learn to play basic ukulele. We'll learn basic chords, strumming and finger-picking techniques, and the history of the instrument. Once we learn basic chords, we will learn songwriting techniques in order to write and perform our own songs.

Sparkle Place: Movement of the Future

(Innovative Dance Workshop)


 


 

FREE 9 week dance workshop for all ages, families welcome!

Every Tuesday 4-6pm


In this class participants will explore the way bodies move through the space of the city of Los Angeles. We will choreograph innovative ways of re-interpreting the world around us and focus on dance as a language in and of itself. We will integrate other mediums, like paint and poetry and using our bodies as instruments to expand our dance vocabulary. We will reconsider dance as a part of the every day, and extend our work in class out into the city. There will be a warm up at the start of each class where we will connect the mind and the body, implementing aspects of yoga and meditation.

Free creative writing workshop for growing imaginations in grades 3-6!

March 4-May 20, 2011

Fridays, 3:30-5:00pm

 

This innovative approach to writing looks at ideas, images and our environment for language expression. Utilizing word games, creative writing exercises and drama games, students will develop their unique style of poetry, prose and theatrical scripts. This 12 week session will culminate in teh completeion of a student literary journal and a performance for family and friends of student literary work.
