This concert commemorates the tenth anniversary of one of the Los Angeles area¹s most unique and special improvising units,
Dead Air,
the product of the magical chemical combination of local veterans
Dan Clucas (cornet, flute, percussion),
Jeremy Keller (electric guitar)
and Brian Christopherson (drums, percussion).

One of the most subtle, solid, and thoroughly uncategorizeable units going, the trio has performed a number of times in this concert series and have consistently thrilled and satisfied listeners over the years, and we take great pleasure in presenting and getting to once again hear the broad strokes of fire and mist from Clucas, the orchestrational/architectural sound rituals of Keller, and the gentle streams of crackling and bubbling from Christopherson. This spontaneous music and its most pure and approachable. Please join us!

Adding to our delight, opening the evening will be another favorite Open Gate unit, the duo of trombonist Michael Vlatkovich (who has played with almost everyone of note at this point) and tuba player William Roper
(who has played with pretty much everyone else!).

Both among the area¹s most individual and accomplished musicians, the combination of these two virtuosic and eccentric artists goes far beyond the confines of what one might expect from a low brass duo. Performing Vlatkovich¹s unique, witty, sophisticated, and beautiful compositions, Vlatkovich and Roper bring their combined years of varied musical experience to bear on a synergistic and intimate rapport, creating a special music that balances composition and improvisation in a seamless and sly manner, as evidenced in their Nine Winds CD Chobraty.

Listeners of magnificently and uncompromisingly realized modern music simply cannot go wrong on this evening!
