Open Gate Theatre and Center for the Arts Eagle Rock Present Flicked: Old Movies With New Music....Vaude-vilified! Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" (1927) Sunday, April 19, 2009 7:00 p.m. $5.00
The Fritz Lang masterpiece will receive a new musical score with musicians: Alex Cline (percussion, drums) Will Salmon ( flute and keyboards) G.E. Stinson (electric guitar)
Lang’s 1927 German Expressionist film of social inequity set in a dystopic but visually majestic Streamline Moderne future will serve as the backdrop for the interplay of balance between the musicians as they sculpt sound together. Alex Cline’s performances range from subtle to fierce, and Stinson will extract unmatched sounds of lyrical longing and blues raunchiness from his electric guitar. Will Salmon's flute will speak for the film’s protagonist Maria, and a sampled download of the mighty Wurlitzer theatre organ from South Pasadena's Rialto Theatre will lend romance to the soundtrack. Location: Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock 2225 Colorado Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90041 323.226.1617
About Flicked The Flicked experience returns to the days of vaudeville as affordable community entertainment, with live music accompanying the film as well as live acts. Flicked is “old movies with new music, vaude-vilified with live acts.” Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock and Open Gate Theatre hope that the affordable new series will serve as a place for people to gather for old-fashioned community entertainment, leaving their homes and televisions behind once a month on Sunday nights. It's cheaper than the movie theatre and a lot more fun! About Open Gate Theatre Open Gate Theatre was founded in 1982 by Artistic Director Will Salmon.
